I’ve always been a naturally small girl and for years to me that translated to “you don’t have to exercise” but I’ve recently realized, exercise isn’t all about losing weight. I would say I am definitely out of shape, I mean I live on the second floor and absolutely get winded walking up, but beyond that, exercise makes you feel good! Today I’m sharing 2 benefits of exercise that have nothing to do with losing weight!
- Exercise Helps You Sleep
You’re probably thinking, Danielle you have no idea what you’re talking about! Exercise increases you level of energy and that is most definitely counter intuitive to aiding in sleep BUT hear me out! A study done by The Sleep Foundation shows moderate to intense exercise (meaning anywhere between a brisk walk and sprinting) improves sleep quality in adults because it can help decrease the amount of time it takes for you to fall asleep. Exercising to close to your usual bedtime can counteract this so it’s best to find what time of day morning or afternoon or early evening works best for you and remember even just 20 minutes of exercise a day can improve you sleep cycle!
2. The Endorphins!!!
There will always be those people that just love a workout, then there’s people like me. I don’t really want to do it but by the end I feel so great that I’m glad I did! That mood boost, high like feeling you get after a workout is literally a chemical reaction! Like Elle Woods said, working you gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy! Dr. Kristin Hughes MD, a board-certified emergency medicine physician and concierge health strategist explained that “Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that help you to feel happier, more relaxed, and less anxious,”! So why no get a little active!
