For years Self Care was reduced to something that we did on Sunday – “Self-Care Sunday” then recently men and women stepped into self care on Saturday but why are reducing taking care of ourselves to just the weekend? During the work week is when we really need it the most! AM I right? I completely understand giving ourselves a little TLC on Sunday, trust me; when I was working a job back in 2019 I would feel physically sick of Sunday just knowing I had to go back to the office on Monday – definition of not liking your job, so whether you’re working from home like so many right now, not working at all and driving yourself crazy applying for jobs, working in the office or taking care of your family all day ,you need to add in some self care EVERY SINGLE DAY! Here are a few simple was to add in some self-care throughout your day!
Begin the Day with a Coffee or Tea and Journal Your Thoughts
I’ve found that waking up a little before everyone else in my household helps me a lot! I take that time to take in the quiet and and really pray and meditate. I make my morning beverage (sometimes tea, sometimes coffee) and write out m thoughts for that morning. Whether that means writing out to God, working on my day’s to do list or simply just jotting down different thoughts and ideas. That alone time really makes me feel good and gives me the opportunity to take care of myself and my thoughts.
Unplug for Lunch
All too often; especially while working from home, we find ourselves not really stepping away for lunch. Log off, don’t check emails and step away from the computer! It’s easy to get caught up in saying “I just have to check for a respond to this email” but it is your lunch break so truly take it as a break! Unplug, step away and relax!
Take 5 Minutes to Step Away Throughout the Day
It’s easy to get stuck in the same spot for hours upon hours when you find ourself in the zone working on projects. Trust me, I know, I’ve been the person who’s exhausted at the end of the day! I can’t stress how important it is of your meal health to take 5 minutes every so often to step away! It’s a lot easier than you’d think; at the end of your zoom meeting take 5 minutes to walk outside and just take in he beautiful weather, or go make a beverage! Just stand up and release your mind for a few minutes. Stepping away will allow you to better refocus when you step back in!
Light a Candle After Work
If you’re anything like me, then you love a good candle and probably have many around our home! Something happens when I light a candle, its almost as if my mind automatically goes into relaxation mode and from following Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere I’ve learned to light a candle at the end of ever work day to relax our mind. Trust me it really works and if you’re a drink, pour yourself a glass of wine too!
Write Down or Discuss the Best Part of Your Day
Years ago, a girlfriend told me everyday when her and her husband bot got home from work they’d sit together and share both the best part and worst part of their day with each other and I really loved that idea. I think there’s something so freeing about being able to write out or talk about the best part of your day, especially after journaling your “positive” thoughts in the morning. Acknowledging and writing out 1 good thing that happened to you during the day is going to help you look at the positive and focus on that at the end of each day oppose to the negative!
